In true Key West style, on the one-year anniversary of his passing, the memory of Jimmy Buffett was not marked with a sad occasion; instead, it was a party that lasted four days! Fans flocked from around the globe to join Florida Keys locals to pay tribute to the internationally acclaimed singer/songwriter over the Labor Day weekend.
The festivities included a proclamation from state and local officials announcing “Jimmy Buffett Day”, the unveiling of a highway sign designating historic State Road A1A as the “A1A Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway”, trash cleanups, walking tours, concerts, culinary events, and so much more...all of it organized to benefit local non-profit organizations. On Sunday, September 1st, at 5:00 pm, a large group of “friends” gathered outside Sloppy Joe’s Bar to kick off a Second Line memorial march. A toast to Jimmy and the incredible history of his career was given by the “Just a Few Friends” event creator Paul Menta. The parade flowed up Duval Street, making its way to the Truman Waterfront, with our very own Papa 2024 Bat Masterson and his famous conch shell-blowing skills leading the way.

Sloppy Joe’s Foundation
The Sloppy Joe’s Foundation is in awe of the generosity of our friends, businesses, and Sloppy Joe’s patrons. Your participation and donations to special events benefiting the Sloppy Joe’s Foundation and Caturdays over the summer months have made significant contributions to the youth of the Florida Keys. Caturday's support in June provided various summer camp scholarships, allowing students to enjoy enriching programs and exciting camp opportunities.
August donations raised enough for supplies and clothing to fill over 300 back-to-school backpacks for Kids Come First, ensuring students in need did not start the school year unprepared.
You may recall that our Key West High School Marching Band had the honor of an invite to play the 2024 London New Year's Day parade, a truly unique and impactful opportunity. They knocked their performance out of the park, but that once-in-a-lifetime trip also left this student-funded Band very much in the red. July’s Key Lime Pie Smash Party and Caturday got them marching on the right foot into the school year with combined donations of over $4,800!
Your support and donations are greatly appreciated and make a tremendous positive impact on our island community. Please visit the Sloppy Joe's Foundation for more information or to donate.
