The 43rd Hemingway Look-Alike contest is not merely a celebration of famed author Ernest Hemingway. The 5-day event proved once again to be so much more. It is a celebration of comradery, legacy, and giving back. Sloppy Joe’s cleared the stage to make way for over 120 Papa wannabe contestants, which narrowed down to 5 finalists, ultimately bestowing Bat Masterson as Papa 2024.
The competition kicked off with the Hemingway Look-Alike Society presentation of 18 Scholarships granted to Florida Keys students. The society also gifted multiple $1,000 donations to various Keys Nonprofit Organizations.

Sloppy Joe’s Foundation
The Sloppy Joe’s Foundation is off to a great start for August, and its focus is on supporting the youth in our community.
The month started with the news that our local Little Conchs Baseball 14U team won South-East Regionals, advancing them to the 2024 Babe Ruth Baseball World Series.
We could not be more excited for them to represent Key West, standing up against 15 other teams in the Eagles Pass, Texas championship series. Sloppy Joe’s hosted the Team just days before their departure to support their fundraising efforts for their travel and accommodations. It was a roving sea of Conch Red and White as they encouraged guests to spin our prize wheel for greatly appreciated donations. This team continues to step up to the plate on and off the field.
Without skipping a beat, we rolled right into Caturday. August will benefit Kids Come First. For decades, Kids Come First has focused on providing school and personal supplies to every child experiencing financial adversity in Monroe County. Annually, between July and October, they supply a backpack full of school supplies specific per grade, two school-appropriate outfits, and shoes and socks to approximately 500 students in 10 Monroe County schools. This organization exemplifies the Sloppy Joe’s Foundation’s mission of supporting our island community.
And it doesn't end there. Over the Labor Day weekend holiday, we will support Key West Sunrise Rotary with our official BrewFest 2024 events and the Just A Few Friends Parade, which celebrates Jimmy Buffet's life and benefits the Bahama Village Music Program and MARC.
